Lamu Programmes & Itineraries
Lamu has been spared the disruption of its society which so often follows on the impact of western influences. It adheres on its old way of life.
It looks out over the Indian Ocean, on which sailed the ships carrying the goods they traded, profiting from the fortunate alteration in the monsoon winds.
The Swalihina is a traditional dhow, restored and adapted to our special use. Operated by an experienced crew it may carry 20-30 passengers on sundowners, half day and full day trips.
All trips are subject to weather conditions and may vary according to the Captain.
SUNDOWNER CRUISES WITH DINNER (20-30 passengers)
We meet at the lamu jetty at 5.00p.m and board Swalihina, setting sail at 5.45p.m. An evening of mild entertainment with cocktails and dinner for approximately 4 hours. On arrival (10.00p.m) back at the pier you will be met and escorted back to your respective accommodations
Alternatively, we may sail for 2 hours and have dinner at the Lamuhouse restaurant. U.S 120 Per person (Either option – Minimum 15 pax)
HALF DAY SAILING TRIPS (20 – 30 passengers)
We meet at the Lamu jetty at 8a.m and set sail at 9a.m.
- Tea/ coffee/ bitings served on board. We stop at Matondoni (a small fishing village)for a visit. We stop at Kipungani beach to swim. After lunch on the dhow we sail back for lamu arriving back at approximately 4p.m
- Tea/ coffee/ bitings will be served on board. We sail to the 16th century vestiges of Takwa and combine our lunch with a swim on Manda beach. Arriving back in Lamu at approximately 4p.m

DAY SAILING TRIPS ( 20 – 30 passengers)
We meet at 8a.m at the lamu jetty and set sail at 9a.m. Options on day sails include:
- Manda Toto
- Kipungani
- Bori Beach/ pate Ruins
Lunch, a swim, visit the ruins, return to lamu at 5p.m

TWO DAY TRIPS (8 – 10 passengers)
Either;
- Pate
- Kipungani
DAY 1 : We meet at the Lamu jetty at 8a.m and set sail at 9a.m.
Tea/ coffee cookies served onboard. We sail for approximately 2 ½ hours to Kipungani. Swim or visit a nearby village famous for making pasts. After lunch mangrove visits with the speed boat. We return back in the afternoon for a swim at the beach. We may also visit the nearby sand dunes. BBQ Dinner and overnight on the Dhow.
DAY 2: Early morning visit to the nearby village or quarries, followed by swimming and breakfast. Set sail for Lamu arriving back at approximately 6p.m

THREE DAY TRIP (8-10 passengers)
Kiwayu
DAY 1 : We meet at the Lamu jetty at 8a.m and set sail at 9a.m.
Tea/ coffee cookies served onboard. We arrive into Kiwayu at approximately 4p.m, anchor and time for a swim or stretch our legs.
Dinner and overnight on the Swalihina.
DAY 2: Early morning swim followed by breakfast, a variety of activities available:
- Visit the Mangroves
- Tide pooling
- Nature trail/ bird watching, etc
- Village tour including The Flip Flop art project
- Match race
- Snorkeling (weather conducive)
- Visit the Turtle programme
Lunch and continue with activities followed by a BBQ dinner and overnight on the Swalihina
DAY 3: early morning breakfast, followed by a quick swim (optional) and we set sail for Lamu arriving at approximately 6p.m

From November – April we can offer TWO DAY SAIL trips to the Zinyinka rocks and a speedboat ride to the Tana Delta. Activities here include; Snorkeling, Fishing, Wildlife watching (Hippos/ Crocodiles/ Elephant/ Birdlife), Bio-diversity.
Charter U.S.$ 2,500 per day
The above rates are commissionable at 20% to Tour Operators & Travel agents.
